THE 1000 SCHOOL SHOES COLLECTION FUN RUN AND WALK
The 1000 School Shoes Collection Fun Run and Walk is an initiative movement started by a few members of the communities in Ratlou Municipality surrounding areas namely Mabule, Masamane, Dingateng, Matloding, Tshidilamolomo, Mmakgori, Mathateng; this was started after noticing kids that still walks bare foot to school. The 1000 School Shoe Collection group we saw this as need to help our communities when you realize that there were so many parents in our community who can’t afford to buy their children school shoes due to poverty, the 1000 School Shoe Collection we hope to make a success of this campaign and many more to come in order to better our communities and help our future leaders as Motswana once said “Go tsaya motse go godisa ngwana”
These learners are from the age of 7-17 years both boys and girls are pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds with the determination to get education even faced with challenges of such, and that’s on and off seasons they continue to pursue their studies irrespective.
This initiative started 2017 and so far we have managed to collect and donate about 500 school shoes which we distributed to the schools the beginning of the school calendar when the school opened. On this day we also aim to raise and distribute over 2886 pairs of School Shoes and 1500 dignity packs for young girls. Our main objective is to restore girl child’s dignity and ensuring that no girl misses school during her monthly cycle period, but also restoring hope and confidence to focus on their studies.
